Trent Boult is going to return to the T20 game again in New Zealand jersey. He has been included in the squad for the last two of the upcoming three matches against Australia. Bolt last played T20 in November 2022.

Boult will be replaced by Tim Southee in the second and third T20Is in Auckland. Considering the workload ahead of the two-match Test series, Southi will only be played in the first T20I.

The left-handed Boult is currently playing International League T20 for MI Emirates. His team also made it to the knockouts. If the Emirates reach Saturday’s final, they will have six days before the second T20I. He has not worn the national team jersey since the ODI World Cup semi-final against India in November last year.

A 14-man squad has been announced for the series, which starts in Wellington on February 21. Darryl Mitchell is nursing a leg injury. He was replaced by Josh Clarkson. This all-rounder from Central District is a new face in T20 despite playing three ODIs. Kane Williamson has taken paternity leave. He is not playing either.

“It’s never ideal not to have two of your best players in a big series like this,” selector Sam Wells said. But we also have a lot of confidence in those who are there. Both Josh and Rachin were in our white ball squad this season. It’s really exciting for them to get this opportunity.’

Michael Bracewell is out with a finger injury. Jimmy Neesham also couldn’t make it because he was busy in BPL.

Squad: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Trent Boult (2nd and 3rd matches), Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Devon Conway (wicketkeeper), Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert ( Wicketkeeper), Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee (1st match).
