The country’s beaches will be located, for the remainder of the year, as the destinations that Mexicans will prefer to go to during their next trips.
Adriana Mantilla, regional director of Booking Member Services, pointed out that according to the company’s statistics it is known that 70% of Mexicans want to take four-day domestic trips and 62% of them want to go to beach destinations.
He mentioned that the most sought after destinations in the future are Cancún, Mazatlán, Playa del Carmen, Mexico City, Puerto Escondido and Acapulco.
He indicated that during Holy Week and Easter, Acapulco was ranked as the sixth most searched destination by nationals. “We see this as a very good recovery point for the port. There is a very strong confidence of the traveler to return and a very strong support for the destination. For example, we already have more than 400 accommodations open, which means that for our travelers we have more than 70% of the offer that we usually have in Acapulco. The port continues to position itself as a very strong family and couples destination for us. The main activities they look for are walking on the beaches, sunsets and moments of relaxation,” he said in an interview with Excelsior.
The board was optimistic that the accommodation that has not yet opened in Acapulco could be available for the summer. He indicated that it is the travelers who are in charge of attesting to the conditions in which the infrastructure of Acapulco and other destinations is, through comments on the Booking platform. “We have more than eight million certified comments and that guarantees the condition of the accommodations.”
He added that other destinations that are also in the sights of national travelers are Nuevo Nayarit, Atlixco and Mérida, the latter which is among the ten most attractive destinations for travelers worldwide, according to Booking’s 2024 Travel Predictions. “Mérida has a historical part and a very strong city part.”
He added that for the summer there are good advance reservations in most destinations.
“What we are seeing very positively is that travel is here to stay. In 2023 and previous years, trips were to escape from routine and now in 2024 it is more of a lifestyle.”
While on an international scale, compatriots are looking for destinations such as New York and Cartagena de Indias, Colombia.
“The United States continues as a very strong destination for Mexicans and Colombia as an emerging destination and all this comes from air connectivity that is positioning itself very well in Mexico.”
