A court in Barcelona sentenced Brazilian star footballer Dani Alvez to four and a half years in prison and a fine of one and a half million euros for raping a woman in a night club. Because of this, the club authorities deleted Alvez’s name from the legendary list of the Barcelona club.
In the club’s 125-year history, 102 footballers were included in the list of legends. Where the latest additions are Jordi Alba, Jercio Busquets and Gerard Pique. Dani Alvez’s name is also above them.
Alvez won a total of 43 titles in his career and 23 of them were in the Barcelona jersey. Dani Alves was one of the dream team Barcelona built under Pep Guardiola. That’s why he got a place in the legendary list of Barca.
But no one can live in this place of honor because of the slander. Barca may delete Alvez’s name for that reason. They also removed his name from the club’s official website.
There was some backlash after it was widely written in the media. That’s why Barcelona reconsidered their decision and brought back Alvez’s name in the legend list.
However, no official statement has been presented by the club explaining this.
