Bangladesh Karate Federation is going to organize Commonwealth Karate Championship for the first time in Dhaka. The event will be held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium from 25 to 29 September.
Commonwealth Karate Federation president Soni Pillai told the details of the event in a press conference at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium on Saturday, ‘If an event like the Commonwealth Karate Championship is held in Dhaka, it will have an impact on the country’s economy. Because, one and a half thousand athletes and officials from about 40 countries of the world will come to Dhaka.
At this time, the president of the Karate Federation. Md. Mozammel Haque Khan, Vice President Moazzem Hossain Sentu and General Secretary K. Shai Hla were present.
In 2021, Bangladesh was successful in submitting a proposal to host the 2024 Commonwealth Karate Federation Congress. Out of 72 Commonwealth countries, 32 countries have already registered to play in this championship. The competition will be played in nine disciplines in two categories – Nations and Club Championships. Cadets, Juniors, Under-21, Seniors and Veterans in the Club Championship and Cadets, Juniors, Under-21 and Seniors in the Nations category.
Dr. Mozammel Haque Khan said, ‘We beat four countries like Barbados, Trinidad, Tobago and Bosnia to host the Commonwealth Karate Championship. Now the challenge is to organize the game properly. So that we can organize bigger events of karate in the future.’
The accommodation, food and travel expenses of karatekas participating in the championship will be borne by their respective countries. The host country will get 40% of the Commonwealth and 60% of the money for the registration of karatekas in the Nations category. Bangladesh will get all the registrations in the club championship.
