The day after Iran’s air attack against Israel, a number of Turkish media reported that the Kyurejik radar station, which is under the direct command of the United States, greatly contributed to coordinating the actions of the US, Great Britain, France and Jordanian air forces. In some publications, there was a view that Erdogan “betrayed the promise, actually contributed to Israel’s losses as low as possible.”
Apparently, the situation was really delicate for Erdogan. He was forced to declare that the Kurecik radar station “serves exclusively in the defense of Turkish airspace”. This is when they say “the tongue has no bone”. Even knowledgeable journalists know that this radar station was built and is in operation to protect Israel from expected or suspected strikes from Iran itself.
It is true that Erdogan sometimes allows himself to “threaten” the USA through nationalist forces that he will “close the Kyurejik radar station” – but international actors have not paid attention to this for a long time. The catchphrase, perhaps, is that the commentator of the Baku “Turan” agency wrote in plain text that the Kyurejik radar station “coordinated the actions of the US, Great Britain, France and Jordanian air force and air defense forces”.
Baku, why does Baku reveal Erdogan’s slander? Baku and Ankara, which have relations based on the principle of “one nation, two states”, should not have disagreements on such an extremely sensitive issue. But the fact is obvious and proves the Turkish-Iranian non-friendly, even non-partnership relations. If, of course, we exclude the rumor that everything was a “staging” – something, however, could be believed if the interview of Velayeti, advisor to Iran’s spiritual leader, was not published yesterday, in which he openly stated, perhaps for the first time, that Iran “prevented a beneficial for Turkey the forced opening of the corridor”.
It is also quite remarkable that Kyurejik’s “secret is revealed” the day after Moscow and Baku confirmed the information about the departure of Russian troops from Nagorno-Karabakh, when even “Kommersant” doubts that the Russian-Turkish “monitoring center” in Aghdam will also stop working. Is Moscow “baring” Iran’s back? Is there a prospect that Russia will “get anything” in Ukraine?
Is Turkey convinced that it cannot connect the South Caucasus and Central Asia with a “separate agreement” with Russia? Does the West give such a guarantee to Turkey?
