Erzurum Atatürk University Prof. Dr. Murat Karaoglu said that with the growing population, eating habits have also changed, artificial and fake meat, insects, mushrooms, algae, herbal milk and microgreens will be used in the future.
Publika.az reports that Prof. Dr. In his statement on the matter, Karaoglu said that plant diversity has decreased by 75 percent since the 1900s:
“Globally, we rely on a small amount of food. This has a negative impact on our health and the health of the planet. After 1750, with a very rapid growth, the world population reached 750 million, and in 1950, it reached 2.5 billion. It is estimated that the world population, which is currently approaching 8 billion, will be around 10-11 billion in 2050.
It is critical to examine what this growth means for global food demand in the 2100s. Therefore, it is necessary to change the way we produce and consume food with modern scientific and technological methods and produce new generation, healthier and more sustainable foods.”
3D-4D printers, genetic modification, nanotechnology, synthetic biology, smart packaging, and food architecture methods will be further developed and used in the production of this new generation of foods.
Because different people react differently to food, the future will use high-tech, personalized food products. Digital food production is predicted to increase. Prevention of diseases such as blood pressure, obesity and coronary diseases will become even more important in the future. In addition, it is expected that artificial intelligence will be widely used in nutrition in the future.
