It’s a case worthy of a horror film which fell into the hands of the Vakinankaratra gendarmerie. On December 27, 2023, officers at the Faravohitra outpost, in the Faratsiho district, Vakinankaratra region, received a call from a person indicating the presence of an individual illegally possessing firearms in his home. The informant told the police that the suspect resided in the village of Ambonilohakely, Fokontany Ambohimahasoa II, in the rural commune of Vinaninony, in the aforementioned district. Armed with this information, the gendarmerie then took all the necessary measures, including a request for search authorization from the Antsirabe Court of First Instance. Armed with this document, the police went to the indicated location and searched the suspect’s home. They came across the owner, a 69-year-old man who turns out to be a “mpimasy”, a sorcerer, who works on behalf of the dahalo. As proof, two homemade rifles were found at his home. But what stunned investigators the most was the discovery of a corpse several years old and “ody gasy” (fetish objects) hidden in the house. According to the gendarmes, the “mpimasy” uses this skeleton as a pillow and uses it as an object of worship during his evil rituals. As for the fetishes, they are intended for the daholo to protect them during their attacks. The investigation also revealed that a third rifle is still in the hands of the sorcerer’s accomplices. The search for these suspects is ongoing. It should be noted that the body found, whose identity remains to be determined, was buried the same evening of its discovery.
