The police found the phone clearly visible inside the Jeep, and surveillance cameras in the area captured footage of a man, later identified as Hernández Montero, repeatedly approaching and leaving the vehicle. Upon spotting the authorities, the Cuban suspect attempted to flee in an Uber.
Upon his arrest, a key to the stolen cell phone’s Jeep was found in Montero’s pocket. The vehicle was impounded, and Montero was taken to the Central Police Station. However, he refused to answer any questions posed by the detectives. During a search of the suspect’s car, 17 stolen cell phones were discovered wrapped in aluminum foil, presumably to interfere with their signals.
Additionally, a laptop and a woman’s wallet were recovered from the vehicle.
