The Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AQTA) has warned entrepreneurs about the inconsistencies found in the agricultural products imported to the country.

From the agency Publika.azwas informed that during the corresponding period of 2023, 236 notifications were officially sent by the Agency to the importing countries regarding the inconsistencies found in the imported crop products. Of the detected discrepancies, 130 were from the Islamic Republic of Iran, 45 from the Republic of Belarus, 44 from the Russian Federation, 10 from the Republic of Turkey, 2 from the Republic of Georgia, 2 from the Republic of Ukraine, 1 from the Kingdom of Spain, and 1 from the Netherlands. Due to the current situation, the control measures over the agricultural products imported to our country by AQTA have been strengthened and related measures are being implemented.

It is reported that as a result of the examination of the samples taken from food potato products imported to our country from the Republic of Belarus for the purpose of determining the safety indicators, 45 quarantine pests were detected in the product batches – potato tuber ring rot and potato stem nematode. Official notifications were sent to the relevant institutions of the Republic of Belarus about this, and they were told to investigate and report on the results of the discrepancies that occurred. In addition, harmful organisms – citrus tristeza virus, brown wrinkle virus, mulberry shield pad – were quarantined in a total of 130 cases (62 of them only in orange products) in batches of orange, kiwi, garlic, food potatoes, tangerine, and pepper products imported from the Islamic Republic of Iran. , stem nematode, potato brown rot, and potato ring rot viruses were detected. Official notifications were sent to the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the discovered inconsistencies, and information was given on the results of investigating the inconsistencies.

The agency appeals to the business entities engaged in the import of plant products and informs them that they should carry out their activities taking into account the import requirements of our country and international trade requirements in this area.

AQTA declares that such activities of companies that repeatedly import products infected with quarantined pests and foreign companies that supply these companies with these products pose a serious threat to plant health in our country.
