In recent days, the international press has repeatedly referred to Russian President Putin’s statement about the US Secretary of State, “it means he is our man”. Putin, as is known, remembered Blinken’s words that his grandfather survived the Jewish pogroms and moved from Russia to the USA. The Kremlin “kitchen” was excavated and it was found that Blinken’s great-grandfather was born in Poltava and moved to the USA from Kiev in 1904. “If the US Secretary of State says that his great-grandfather moved from Russia to the USA, then he admits that there was no Ukrainian state” – Blinken was “exposed” by the Russian president and mocked. “Therefore, he is our man.”
If we are to be guided by this logic, then we should recognize Jesus as a “Roman” and reject the existence of the Jewish state or consider that there was no Finland or Poland either, because Blinken’s great-grandfather could have moved to the USA from Russia with the same success, having previously lived in Helsingfors or Gdansk. But it is interesting that Turkey was also excited by Putin’s “exposing” of Blinken.
dicGazete specifically writes that the USA, willy-nilly, but supported Putin’s thesis that Ukraine created the Soviet Union. In Turkey, they hardly understand that what Putin said about Ukraine is not a private attitude at all, he is referring to all the former Soviet republics, including Azerbaijan and the countries of Central Asia.
To say that Turkey supports Putin’s plan to destroy or dismember Ukraine is an obvious mistake. Most likely, at least at this stage, the prolongation of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the deepening of the Russia-West conflict, is beneficial to Turkey, because in that case, Ankara gets a field for wide discussions with each of the parties.
The Association of Exporting Companies of Turkey has published data for the first month of this year. Accordingly, compared to January of last year, the volume of exports from Turkey to Russia has decreased by about forty percent. In monetary terms, it is about four hundred million dollars. A leak appeared in the press that Putin’s visit to Ankara was postponed because Turkey set three preconditions for the import of Russian gas. Russia should not have anything to do with the further resale of gas supplied to Turkey and other transactions, a twenty-five percent discount should be applied to the price of gas, and a two-year delay should be given for payments.
Of course, the decrease in the volume of trade with Russia is due to the “preventive measures” implemented by the West against Turkey. In exchange for the political risk of circumventing the sanctions, Ankara expects and perhaps demands more from Moscow. In this context, for Moscow-Washington tension, Putin can be made a hero in the press, but in practice, additional levers for solving one’s own problems can be obtained and used if necessary.
The collapse of Pan-Slavic solidarity is probably Turkey’s biggest bonus in the last two hundred years. Regardless, what is Ankara’s role in this? And what it will do to Russia is unknown. Today, the leader of the Crimean Tatars, Mustafa Jamilev, assured the Tatars living in Crimea that Ukraine is the bridge connecting the peninsula to mainland Russia and called for disobedience, promising to be one of the first to enter Simferopol. Moreover, with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. Of course, it is a symbolic message, which will be much more excited in Turkey than the US Secretary of State Putin’s “unmasking”.
