Beware of poison
Hymenoptera insects are a threat to allergy sufferers. Bees, bumblebees, wasps and hornets inject poison with their stingers. “A person allergic to a bee can overreact to a bumblebee sting due to the similar composition of the venom. The mutual similarity of venom is also known between the wasp and the hornet. A bite from an ant, mosquito or bug can also cause an allergic reaction, but the danger is minimal,” adds Michal Závacky from the ProAlergiky.cz portal.
Know the differences
An allergy sufferer must know which insect they are allergic to and what the animal in question looks like. For example, many people confuse wasps with pansies, which have the same coloration. “They are harmless and can be distinguished from wasps by the fact that they can stand in the air like a helicopter,” explains the allergy expert.
Manifestations of anaphylactic shock
● Difficulty breathing, wheezing, the tongue and throat begin to swell, the affected person breathes hard.
● Cough, feeling of a foreign body in the throat
● Redness, itching and burning of the skin
● Digestive problems: cramps, vomiting, diarrhea
First aid kit
“If there is a risk of anaphylactic shock, it is necessary to have a first aid kit with you at all times. That is, an adrenaline pen, anti-allergy drugs, corticoids and an inhaler to relax the airways. If signs of anaphylaxis begin to appear, they must administer adrenaline, take medication and call emergency services as soon as possible.” advises MUDr. Tamara Svobodová from pediatric pneumology and allergology at AKESO.
Stab Defense
- Cover food and drink, check every bite. A sting in the oral cavity is the most risky.
- Always wear shoes when walking on the grass.
- Be more careful if you are sweaty, perfumed or covered in cream. It attracts insects.
- Similarly, insects are attracted to brightly colored clothing.
- Before driving, check the interior of the car well and do not ventilate with open windows.
