Traffic through Postgola Bridge (Buriganga Bridge-1), one of the southern entrances to the capital, will be closed for 16 consecutive days. During this time repair and retro fitting of two girders of the bridge will be done. Between 22 February to 8 March; During these 16 days, heavy vehicles will not be able to pass through the bridge. However, buses and light vehicles will be closed for five days.

The Department of Roads and Public Paths (SOAZ) has asked the vehicles plying on the highway to use alternative roads during this period. In the meantime, a public notification has been issued from the office of the additional chief engineer of the Dhaka zone of the department.

According to the notification, the date for this repair work was earlier fixed from February 19 to March 6, but it was changed for SSC examination. All types of heavy vehicles, including truck-pickup vans, covered vans, container lorries, will be closed through the bridge during the newly scheduled period from February 22 to March 8. And on 24th and 26th February and 1st, 4th and 8th March – all types of light vehicles including buses, microbuses, private cars, CNG, autorickshaws will be closed for these five days. All these five days have been requested to use alternative roads.

Souz has also given directions for alternative roads for heavy vehicles and big buses. It has been said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman highway vehicles leaving Jatrabari will enter the highway through Tegharia Intersection using Dholaipard Bus Stand and Babubazar Bridge. And vehicles going to Jatrabari from the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Highway will enter Jatrabari via Dholaipar using Tegharia Intersection-Babubazar Bridge.

Along with this, South region bound vehicles leaving from Gabtali will travel through Paturia Daulatdia Ferry Ghat. And the vehicles leaving from the eastern or south-eastern region of the country and going to the southern region or south-western region will travel through Chandpur-Shariatpur Ferry Ghat. Besides, vehicles leaving from the northern part of the country going to the southern part will travel through Bangabandhu Bridge.

And for light vehicles including microbuses, private cars, CNG, auto-rickshaws, the instructions say that Narayanganj and Chittagong-bound vehicles from Padma bridge can use Srinagar-Munshiganj-Muktarpur bridge-third Shitalakshya bridge-Madanpur road. And the vehicles heading towards Padma bridge from Sylhet, Chittagong can use third Shitalakshya bridge- Muktarpur bridge Munshiganj- Srinagar road from Madanpur.

Besides, it is mentioned in the notification that Dhaka-bound vehicles from Padma Setu can use Srinagar Dohar-Nawabganj-Keraniganj (R-820) road, Turag-Rohitpur (Z-5069), Abdullahpur-Rajabari Bazar-Konakhola Mor-Basila Bridge-Mohammadpur road.
