Altiplano was born in 1976 in Vallenar, in the third region of Chile, and during the dictatorship it settled in Ecuador. During 47 years of life, different musicians have made up the group, always under the direction of the teacher and self-taught polyinstrumentalist Mauricio Vicencio, who is capable of playing more than 300 instruments, both Andean, strings, percussion, including ambient effects.

All this gives the group a unique style, the result of the fusion between the sounds of the Andes, rock, sacred music, and even ambient music and new age.

The research they carry out in each composition and the sacred language that guides their sonic path have resulted in global recognition of their work.

He has 22 record productions, 2 platinum records in Norway for one of his masterpieces “Misa Andina”, recorded under the Kirkelig Kultur Verksted record label. Altiplano has taken his music through concerts, workshops and seminars throughout South America, the United States, China, Switzerland, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Azerbaijan and Norway. For 25 years, its base has been made up of Mauricio Vicencio, Stalin González and Fernando Villablanca, along with them Roberto Morales, Javier Alarcón and Julio Vicencio.
