Cuban Yadiel Hernández had a brutal night of 2 home runs and 6 runs batted in, to bury the Algodoneros del Unión Laguna and last night lead the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos to a solid victory at the sound of 9 for 3, with which the team of the Two Nations secured the series at the UniTrade Stadium, in Laredo, Texas, United States.
The Algodoneros added their seventh defeat in eight games as visitors and fell in their global record to 6 wins and 8 losses, to momentarily place themselves in fifth place in the standings of the Northern Zone, when the fifth series of the 2024 season is about to end in the Mexican Baseball League. The lagoon pitching was punished with 14 hits by the Emplumada offense, in which only two of its starting elements did not achieve at least one hit.
EARLY AT DISADVANTAGE
The Sinaloan youth Omar Araujo started the game for the Algodoneros and managed to put the first zero on the board, but in the second episode the locals hurt him with a run on the spikes of Ryan Aguilar, who received a walk, stole the second base and from there he scored, driven by a single by third baseman José Martínez. In the third down, the Tecos scored one more: Venezuelan Freddy Galvis opened the round with a single and Yadiel Hernández received a walk so that, in the next turn, Jonathan Daza drove in the second line with a single to the center field, with that the work of Omar Araujo on the mound, which was 2 and a third innings, 5 hits and 2 runs, was the pitcher who took the loss.
Left-hander Rito Lugo took over for the Guindas and in the fifth inning, Kennys Vargas hit a double to right field and then, Yadiel Hernández from Matanzas hit his third home run of the campaign, a bomb through left field to put the score at 0 -4, in favor of the locals. Laguna hurt Laredos starter Nate Antone until the sixth inning: with one out on the board, Allen Córdoba reached base with an infield hit and the next inning, Didi Gregorius hit his second home run of the year, to bring the to Unión Laguna 2 for 4.
ASPIRATIONS BURIED
Antone finished his job after 5 and a third innings of 3 hits, 2 runs and 7 strikeouts to score his first win of the season. The Dos Laredos scored the fifth score in the bottom of the seventh inning, with runners on first and second base, Yadiel Hernández did damage again by hitting an unstoppable RBI to center field, as Alí Castillo reached the register. Laredo sealed the game in the eighth, with Thomas McIlraith in the lead and the bases loaded, Kennys Vargas hit a sacrifice fly to center for José Martínez to score, but that was not all, because the next inning, Yadiel Hernández hit his second home run of the game, now three races to put the cards 2 by 9.
In the ninth, for the Algodoneros, Aaron Altherr hit a double to right with a dose of luck and was driven in with a single to left field by Carlos Franco, to put final figures of 3 for 9.
