Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi discussed with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken the current situation in the Gaza Strip, during their meeting today, Thursday, in Cairo, after the latter’s arrival from the Saudi city of Jeddah.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, stated that the meeting dealt with: “The current situation in the Gaza Strip, where the latest developments in joint mediation efforts were reviewed with the aim of reaching a ceasefire and the exchange of detainees. In this regard, the President stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire, Pointing out the humanitarian catastrophe and famine that the Gaza Strip and its residents are exposed to, threatening the lives of innocent civilians.

Fahmy added: “Al-Sisi warned of the dangerous consequences of any military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah, and stressed the necessity of urgent action to implement sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid to the sector, and stressed the necessity of opening the horizons of the political track through intensive work to activate the two-state solution and establish an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The spokesman said, “The US Secretary of State conveyed to the Egyptian President the greetings of President Joe Biden, and his appreciation for Egypt’s established role in establishing peace and stability in the Middle East, which Mr. President appreciated, praising the strategic partnership between the two countries and the continued consultation on various regional and international issues.”

For his part, the American minister praised “Egyptian efforts to push for calm,” stressing “the United States’ keenness on coordination and consultation with the aim of restoring stability and security in the region.”

The two sides agreed on “the importance of continuing joint efforts in this regard, and the necessity of taking all measures to ensure the access of humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip, and to reject the displacement of Palestinians outside their lands in any way or form.”

Today, the Egyptian President received the US Secretary of State and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Major General Abbas Kamel, Head of General Intelligence.

It is noteworthy that this is the sixth trip that Blinken has made to the Middle East since the start of the war between Israel and the faction movement on October 7.

Washington is still the largest supporter of Israel, not only militarily, technically, and artistically, but also politically, by thwarting several attempts to obtain a Security Council resolution for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and thus standing in the face of the will of the international community and the entire world.
