On Wednesday, the Israeli Knesset supported Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state “unilaterally” after increasing international calls to revive efforts to reach a two-state solution to the decades-long conflict.

Netanyahu’s Likud Party said in a statement that 99 out of 120 lawmakers voted in favor of the declaration approved by the government earlier this week.

“Direct negotiations”

The Israeli declaration also says that any permanent agreement with the Palestinians must be reached through direct negotiations between the two sides, and not through international dictates.

“International dictates”

The Israeli Prime Minister had said that Israel would not accept what he described as international dictates demanding the imposition of the establishment of a Palestinian state unilaterally.

Netanyahu added, in a press conference last Monday, that any political settlement with the Palestinians must take place only through direct negotiations between the parties without any preconditions, he said.

‘An unprecedented reward for terrorism’

He also added, “Such recognition after the October 7 attack would amount to an unprecedented reward for terrorism, and would prevent any real peace agreement.”

Netanyahu’s government voted unanimously to reject any step taken by any country to recognize the Palestinian state.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of civilian casualties, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive infrastructure destruction.
