The yen fell against the dollar, Friday, after Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said it was too early to declare victory in the battle against inflation, but the dollar fell against the euro after weaker-than-expected US economic data.
In cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin approached the highest level in two years that it had recorded on Wednesday.
Ueda said that it was too early to confirm that inflation was sustainably approaching the central bank’s target level of two percent, and stressed the need to examine more data on wage expectations.
Price movements
The dollar rose 0.15 percent to 150.20 yen.
The dollar index, which measures the performance of the US currency against a basket of major currencies, fell 0.15 percent to 103.96 points.
The index erased previous gains after the results of a customer sentiment survey issued by the University of Michigan were weaker than expectations.
The euro rose 0.28 percent to $1.0833.
The British pound advanced 0.09 percent to $1.2636.
Bitcoin rose 0.7 percent in the latest trading to $61,840 after recording $63,933 on Wednesday, the highest level since November 2021.
