The activities of the intellectual forum accompanying the 33rd edition of Sharjah Theater Days concluded yesterday, Tuesday. Theatrical directing between impact and influence.
The forum included three participations by playwrights: Tunisian director and playwright Ghazi Zoghbani, Egyptian actor, director, and writer Tariq Al-Duwairi, and Emirati director, actor, and writer, Faisal Al Darmaki.
Ghazi Zoghbani presented a paper entitled “The Impact of Visual References on Directing Adapted Theatrical Texts: Personal Testimony”; He confirmed that he did not hide his influence by the Theater of the Absurd as it was a theater rebellious against reality, and the play “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett was the first source he was influenced by.
In turn, Tariq Al-Duwairi presented a paper entitled “Artistic Creativity and the Dialectic of Effect and Impact…Egyptian Theatrical Directing as an Example,” and stressed at the beginning of his talk that artistic influence by any global experience does not harm the director or playwright, provided that this influence is positive and bears the features of the playwright’s experience and vision. Arabi.
He pointed to his artistic vision, which follows a special approach by employing more than one novel or theatrical text, in performances that benefit from the cultural, political and social climate in which we live, but he stressed the need for the effect to be far from repetition or imitation.
As for Faisal Al Darmaki, he presented a paper entitled “Theatrical Director and Inspiration from Popular Heritage between Tradition and Renewal,” in which he touched on popular theater, which he considers closest to the spectator, as a result of human interaction between individuals and groups.
