Official Syrian media announced that air defenses responded to “hostile targets” in the vicinity of Damascus on Friday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed the news, speaking of “hearing explosions in the Syrian capital and its environs.”

The Observatory added that ambulances rushed to the site of the strikes.

In the same context, Iranian media reported initial reports about the targeting of the Mezzeh Military Airport in Damascus.

The Syrian News Agency (SANA) usually refers in its reports to Israeli strikes as “hostile targets,” but Israeli sources denied to Sky News Arabia that Israel had carried out strikes on the vicinity of Damascus.

Over the past years, Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, mainly targeting Iranian and Hezbollah targets, including warehouses and shipments of weapons and ammunition, as well as Syrian army sites.

But these strikes intensified after the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip.

Israel rarely confirms the implementation of these strikes, but it reiterates that it will confront what it describes as efforts by Tehran to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
