Eight months before the presidential election in November, President Joe Biden has a surprising narrow lead over Donald Trump in two polls, even though his approval rating fell to an all-time low after last week’s State of the Union address.

Biden narrowly beat Trump

In two opinion polls, it appears that Biden may outperform his rival by a small margin, according to what the American website “Newsweek” reported.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll of 3,356 registered voters showed that Biden will receive 39% of the votes, while Trump will receive 38%.

The poll was conducted between March 7 and 13, and its margin of error was +/- 1.8 percentage points.

45% voted for Biden

In parallel, a poll conducted by Cifix/Daily Kos, which included 1,324 registered voters, revealed that Democratic candidate Biden obtained 45% of the votes, compared to 44% for Trump.

This poll was conducted between March 9 and 12, and its margin of error was +/- 2.8 percent.

Biden delivered the Union Speech last week and received positive evaluations from a series of experts, and a good reaction from the American public, according to an opinion poll.

Meanwhile, he announced plans for the US Army to build a temporary port on the coast of the Gaza Strip to allow more humanitarian aid to reach the region.

Biden, 81, also used the speech to address concerns about his age, saying: “In my career, I’ve been told I’m too young and I’m too old. Whether I’m young or old, I’ve always known what lasts.”

Divide of opinion

In addition, the polls were quite divided in general, and Biden led Trump in other national polls.

While a poll conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation showed that Biden is ahead of Trump by 47 percent compared to 44 percent.

The opinions of 1,072 registered voters were polled between 20 and 28 February last year in this poll.

But others indicated that Trump would win. An opinion poll conducted by YouGov between 3 and 5 March among 1,450 registered voters expected that the former president would obtain 44% of the votes, compared to 42% for Biden.

Despite the positive response to his speech, Biden’s approval rating subsequently fell to an all-time low of 37.4%.

The rejection rate reached 56.5%. Now 38.4% of voters approve of the president, with 55.7% disapproving on March 15, according to the national average of pollster FiveThirtyEight.

Trump faces criminal charges

With eight months to go until the vote, a lot may change, especially since Trump faces four criminal indictments that may affect his political career, despite his denial of any wrongdoing and pleading not guilty in all of his cases.
