His Excellency Representative Hassan Bukhammas participated in the meetings of the Preparatory Committee for the Sixth Conference of the Arab Parliament and the heads of Arab councils and parliaments in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, which comes in preparation for the conference that will be held next Saturday, April 27, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States under the title “An Arab Parliamentary Vision for Achieving Safe Employment.” for Artificial Intelligence,” as part of the House of Representatives delegation participating in the conference, headed by His Excellency Mr. Ahmed bin Salman Al Muslim, Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The meetings discussed the draft document prepared by the Arab Parliament regarding the Arab parliamentary vision for achieving the safe employment of artificial intelligence. The opportunities and challenges associated with the uses of artificial intelligence in Arab countries were also addressed, and the role that Arab parliamentarians can play in governing the uses of artificial intelligence through establishing a legal framework. A regulatory framework that ensures the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies responsibly and safely in various fields, and in a manner that takes into account the privacy, culture and morals of Arab societies.
For his part, His Excellency Representative Hassan Bukhammas pointed out that the content of the draft document comes in the context of the rapid changes the world is witnessing in the uses of artificial intelligence, stressing the necessity of keeping up with these changes legislatively in a way that regulates the use of these technologies and supports cybersecurity.
Bukhammas stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain realizes the importance of artificial intelligence in simplifying operations and providing decision-makers in all sectors with information, and explained that the Kingdom has taken advanced steps towards studying artificial intelligence and applying it in various fields, adding that the Bahraini Parliament is working in parallel with all these measures through continuous updating. The system of legislation and laws that simulate the development of the field of artificial intelligence.
At the conclusion of the preparatory meetings, representatives of the heads of Arab councils and parliaments are scheduled to submit the draft document in its final form to the heads of Arab parliaments for approval next Saturday, in preparation for submitting it to the next Arab summit at the level of Arab leaders, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the middle of next May. .
