Britain will grant an additional 18-month extension to Ukrainian visa holders eligible to stay in the United Kingdom, the Home Office said on Sunday.

The government said that from early 2025, hundreds of thousands of refugees who fled Ukraine after the Russian attack will be able to apply for residency in Britain, and will continue to enjoy work, healthcare and education rights.

Immigration Minister Tom Borslaw said in a statement: “The new visa extension scheme provides certainty and reassurance to Ukrainians in the UK about their future as this war continues, and we will continue to provide a safe haven for those fleeing the conflict.”

Britain has two programs for Ukrainian refugees, one for those with family already in the UK, and the other allows Britons to provide accommodation for those fleeing the war, as the Russian attack on Ukraine approaches its third year.

The Home Office said the extension would benefit more than 283,000 Ukrainians in Britain.

As part of its efforts to support Ukraine in its military efforts, Britain also said that it would provide Kiev with thousands of drones, and urged American lawmakers to vote in favor of a $95 billion security aid package for Ukraine and other allies.
