After honoring him at the opening of the Saudi Film Festival, a dialogue session was presented with the Saudi star Abdul Mohsen Al-Nimr at the festival headquarters in the King Abdulaziz Center for World Cultural “Ithra” in a large presence.
The beginning of the conversation revolved around the opening of the “Brick Theater,” as Al-Nimr referred to it in his speech. This was the location from which he set out to watch movies and place the bricks in his childhood theater near their old home. He climbed onto it after making a primitive theater out of it, and showed his scenes to children. Neighborhood, the admiration spread immediately, and this made him become a real actor, and the situation continued to escalate until that was no longer an option, and it continued to this day.
Al-Nimr continued talking, while the story of early stardom constituted a great burden and a greater responsibility for the young actor who achieved fame overnight. Al-Nimr spoke about his fame in a talk show, referring to his first television experience in 30 episodes, which caused in him a certain behavior that his fame imposed on him, after the end of the program. He talked about the impact of fame on his character, personality, and social life. Al-Nimr was greatly influenced by satellite channels, which he described as available to a generation. Young people, like the Dhahran Channel at the time, were fortunate to reside in this culturally vibrant region, and by watching these channels, he developed a desire for acting.
Abdul Mohsen Al-Nimr admitted in the dialogue session with the audience that he had spent 4 decades pursuing art, but now he had to say: “I discovered that I am now on the path, Abdul Mohsen Al-Nimr.” This is true. I came to this concept and was convinced of it, and I know, and I know. Despite the conflict of my idea, the state of conflict, and the inventions of the beautiful moment within me, I am on the right path, and despite years of struggle, those disagreements have turned into a widespread popular perception of your ideas and trends, so this stage was called “the leap” because it was based on solid ground. “I have achieved the goal of achieving my long-cherished ambition by reducing distance and exposure through time travel and, of course, experience.”
The festival honored Abdul Mohsen, who began his artistic career in 1981 and presented dozens of television series in addition to a number of films, the most recent of which were “Hajan” by director Abu Bakr Shawqi and the series “Threads of Moazib,” which was one of the most successful Saudi works shown in Ramadan 2024.
Abdul Mohsen’s documentary was the most surprising, and his audience’s fascination with him was not primarily due to his clever visual language or self-portrayal, but rather to his compelling story, which was the story of every talented Saudi.
Al-Ahsa was the birthplace of the artist Al-Nimr, who was born there, and his early beginnings in the artistic field were 40 years ago, and began with the television series (Al-Shater Hassan) and the program (Salamak). He presented the most important series of his artistic works since then, including: (Taste of Days). (The tear of a lifetime, the world is a moment, oars, and illusion). It is noteworthy that the Saudi Film Festival is one of the annual events organized by the Cinema Society, in a distinguished partnership with the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture “Ithra” and with the support of the Film Authority of the Ministry of Culture. This session includes film and scenario competitions with the development of its structure and prizes, and expanding the scope of film screening programs to include Selected films from the international and Arab levels.
The festival continues to offer a distinctive package of cultural and enrichment programmes, which include seminars and advanced training workshops, in addition to providing a platform for production companies, producers and filmmakers, to enable their projects through the production market. The festival will display a group of knowledge books issued by the Cinema Society.
