Within the framework of the cultural program of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, a special session was held to discuss and sign the book “In the Making: The Middle East between Transformations of the International System and Regional Interactions,” in the presence of His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, President of the Federal National Council, and Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, Which organizes the 33rd edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.
In an attempt to understand the development of political stages in the region and the world, the session, moderated by Dr. Hamad Al Kaabi, CEO of the News Center at Abu Dhabi Media Network and editor-in-chief of Al-Ittihad newspaper, was discussed, with the participation of the author of the book, His Excellency Nabil Fahmy, former Egyptian Foreign Minister, and Hossam Ibrahim, Executive Director By the Future Center for Advanced Research and Studies in Abu Dhabi, the essence of the book, which reviews the current conflict between the United States on the one hand, and Russia and China on the other hand, regarding reshaping the current international order in the wake of the end of the Cold War.
His Excellency Nabil Fahmy said, “Russia and China are pushing towards a multipolar international system, while Washington seeks to preserve the existing system that it dominates,” reviewing the repercussions of this conflict on the Middle East region, in terms of interactions between the main powers in the region and their balances.
Fahmy spoke about the development of his professional life until he assumed the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and then heading to the academic side, and writing the new book, which consists of five chapters, the first of which deals with the struggle between the major powers to reshape the international system, while the second chapter reviews Manifestations of international competition over the Middle East region. The third chapter explores the transformations in the map of interactions between the countries of the region and the features of the “new Middle Eastern” order. The fourth chapter focuses on the Arab-Israeli conflict and its effects on the region, and the fifth chapter presents a vision for a more just and democratic international order. It guarantees equal rights for all countries in the public interest, and proposes steps to make the Middle East region and the world free of nuclear weapons.
At the conclusion of the discussion session, a book signing ceremony was held in the presence of those interested in international political affairs, and the book was displayed in the pavilion of the Future Center for Advanced Research and Studies, which is participating with ten new publications during the activities of the Abu Dhabi Book Fair.
