Afghan spinner banned from UAE T20 league – 2024-02-21 11:11:20

Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed has been banned from International League T20 for breaking the contract. He was banned from the tournament in the UAE for 12 months.

Noor Ahmed was signed to Sharjah Warriors in the first season of the tournament. The franchise later decided to extend his contract by one more year. But the left-arm spinner refused to sign the retention notice. Instead, he decided to play SA-T20 for Durban Super Giants in South Africa.

The International League T20 said the 19-year-old was served a retention notice in accordance with the terms of the player’s contract ahead of the second season. But as Noor objected to it, the Warriors had to approach the league authorities to resolve the matter. The league’s disciplinary committee then investigated the matter. They also listened to Noor Ahmed and Warriors before the final verdict.

The committee initially wanted to punish Noor with a 20-month ban. But the committee took that into account as he was young at the time of the original contract. Further, while explaining his position, Noor said that the agent did not inform him about all the terms of the contract. In all therefore 8 months of punishment has been waived from the punishment.

Noor played 7 matches in Warriors in the first season. He took 4 wickets with 148 runs. Economy was 7.04.

This is the second Warriors player to face a ban. Last December, Afghan pacer Navin-ul-Haq received a 20-month ban for the same reason.
