AEK – Olympiacos 1-0 – THE NEWS

It’s a cliché, but it perfectly expresses what happened a few minutes ago at the OPAP Arena in the derby between AEK and Olympiakos. AEK… fell from the Acropolis and found a purse or otherwise a derby that kept them alive and at zero thanks to the excellent Athanasiadis with Olympiakos pounding them mercilessly and Eliasson in the 91st minute finding a goal out of nowhere and giving them an unbelievable 1-0 win.

What happened in the OPAP Arena does not even happen… in fairy tales with a team being on the pitch and completely dominating from start to finish looking for the big “three points” but leaving defeated because the… God of the ball was asleep!

AEK gets an incredible victory as it turned out, which keeps them in first place, +2 from PAOK, while Olympiacos remains fourth and -8 from the top. A derby that we will remember for its development, the absolute dominance of Olympiakos, which, however, could not find the net in the 7 very good chances it created and where it would have stayed at least in the draw and the impressions, 100% in its favor, saw the Swede to score in the 91′ in a phase where also his defense, and especially Retsos, did not work properly as they let him shoot when they could have “knocked him down” avoiding the fatality.

Olympiacos dominated with two great chances

Mendiliber decided to go to 4-2-3-1 with Fortunis in the axis and Masoura at one end with the system even becoming 4-4-2 several times with the development of the captain high in the opposing defense. With the same system, Almeida (4-2-3-1) saw his team unable to make Olympiacos difficult at any point in the first half.

On the contrary, Olympiacos was dominant on the field of OPAP Arena with Podense “embroidering” and Masoura and El Kambi unable to convert the “take – put” passes into goals. Both times, in the 9th minute and the 45th minute respectively, Athanasiadis saved AEK by keeping a clean sheet in a first half where they were at the pace of Piraeus, but they did not score a goal they deserved.

Recital Mediliber but…

In the replay, the scene did not change. AEK tried in the first minutes to change the pace of the match but failed. Medilibar made their changes and increased the pressure on AEK even higher while Almeida responded with a huge risk and two strikers.

The Basque coach of Olympiakos accepted the gift and the red and whites completely dominated, missing opportunities with Martins in the 65′ and 78′ and an unlikely double with Ciquinho and Jovetic in the 82′. In the 88th minute, Montenegro again threatened but again did not find a goal until the fateful phase for Olympiakos came in the 91st minute to decide the derby and give the “three points” to AEK, who would also celebrate with the draw…

AEK: Athanasiadis, Rota (77’Ponce), Vida, Mukudi, Hadjisafi, Simanski (70’Mandalos), Jonsson, Amrabad (70’Zuber), Gacinovic (70’Eliason), Pineda, Garcia (86’Ljubisic).

Olympiakos: Tzolakis, Rodinei, Retsos, Carmo, Ortega, Ese, Tsiquinho (93’El Arabi), Fortunis (79’Jovetic), Masouras (60’Martins), Pontense, El Caabi (60’Navarro).
