SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The legend of French cinema Gérard Depardieu was detained this Monday for questioning in relation to alleged sexual assaults against two women on different film sets, according to police sources; Hours after interrogation, he was released.
Depardieu, one of France’s biggest movie stars, has been at the center of a growing number of sexual assault allegations in recent years. Police are now investigating two new allegations that Depardieu assaulted two women on film sets in 2014 and 2021.
The 2014 complaint was filed by a woman who worked as an assistant on the film The magician and the Siamese. According to him, he told the newspaper The Western MailDepardieu groped her “everywhere” and made “inappropriate” comments.

The young woman was 24 years old at the time of the events. In an interview with the local press, she stated that the actor still “torments” her for this behavior.
Regarding the complaint related to the filming of Green shuttersby Jean Becker, in 2021, a preliminary investigation for “sexual assault” was opened, and the investigations were handed over to the 3rd District of the Paris Judicial Police.
The woman, 53, was a set designer on the film. The events date back to September 2021 and would have taken place in a private mansion in Paris. According to her, the actor made lewd comments to her during filming. Next, he “brutally grabbed her” and “kneaded her waist, her belly, even her breasts,” according to her story.

The actor has also been implicated in another case abroad: in mid-December, a journalist and writer, Ruth Baza, filed a complaint with the Spanish police for an alleged rape that occurred in October 1995 in Paris. Other women have also accused the actor of sexual violence and harassment during the filming of films or series in various journalistic investigations.
For his part, Depardieu, 75, denies the accusations against him. “I have never abused a woman,” he declared in an open letter published in Le Figaro in October 2023.
The first to denounce the actor was the star Charlotte Arnould, who denounced Depardieu in 2018 for rape and sexual assault, a procedure for which the Frenchman was charged in 2020.
