Not even Lent will be spared from the enormous precision of the citizens, who have a headache for setting the family table with the traditional dishes that accompany the custom.
Consumers are looking at seafood with binoculars these days, as the prices at the fishmonger make them dizzy. Characteristic of the situation prevailing in the market is that the squid is sold for up to 10 euros per kilo, while the octopus even 22 euros per kilo.
Specifically, the dishes of the Lenten table cost:
- Squid: €10/kg
- Octopus: €16-22/kg
- Mixed seafood: €9-11.70/kg
- Cuttlefish: €10.80-20/kg
- Cod: €14-17.80/kg
The prices will climb even more!
According to a relevant report by MEGA, the fishmongers do not hide that as the three days of Clean Monday approaches, the prices will rise even more.
In the fish markets of the country there is hope that, even with smaller purchases, consumers will celebrate the kouloumas, so that the coffers will be warmed. In supermarkets from next Wednesday there will be the “Lent basket” with at least two types of frozen seafood.
They are asking for a “Fish Market Basket”
At the same time, the fishmongers of the Varvaki market are requesting a meeting with the Minister of Development, in order to create their own “Fish Market basket”, following the standards of their initiative last year.
