Six complaints were taken into account by the Enforcement Unit of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Enforcement units raided two places. Letters have been sent to four government departments to inform the ACC about necessary measures.
ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer. Aktarul Islam said that the ACC received complaints against the officials of Dhaka North City Corporation’s Region-4 (Mirpur) office for issuing new trade licenses and for renewing trade licenses and demanding bribes through brokers. A team from ACC head office conducted a raid there after receiving the complaint. In the operation, the ACC team took a stand in the license branch of that office in the guise of a service recipient, and the presence of the broker was seen. When the two men were suspected to be brokers, the enforcement team’s interrogation proved their involvement initially. The two brokers were later convicted under the Local Government (City Corporation) Act by a mobile court.
On the other hand, the ACC received a complaint against the Land Assistant Officer of the Kushkhali Union Land Office in Satkhira Sadar for demanding bribes for land registration, collection of land development tax, approval of new holdings online and other services. After receiving the complaint, a raid was conducted from the office of Khulna District Anti-Corruption Commission. The ACC team members observed the office operations undercover and got the prima facie evidence of the involvement of the two employees in the complaint. Also during the operation ACC members collected the information related to the statements and complaints of the service users. A detailed report will be submitted to the commission after reviewing the records collected during the campaign.
