Currently, Mr. Nguyen Thai Luyen is currently serving a life sentence for fraudulent appropriation of property at Thu Duc Prison, Binh Thuan. Ms. Vo Thi Thanh Mai has not yet served her sentence due to raising a child under 36 months old.
The number of victims is 4,929 people, of which the number of victims who have filed a request for judgment enforcement as of the time of issuance of the decision to enforce the judgment is 3,899 people.
During the process of organizing the execution of the judgment, the executor handled an amount of more than 57 billion VND to pay the victims. At the same time, the executor fully notified Luyen and Mai of the judgment execution decisions according to regulations.
At the end of the voluntary execution period, Mr. Luyen and Ms. Mai did not voluntarily execute the sentence. Therefore, enforcers issue enforcement decisions to distrain and handle temporarily seized assets to ensure judgment enforcement.
The assets expected to be distrained include: 272 pieces of gold metal collected at Alibaba company headquarters; 9 cars and 2 motorbikes did not have license plates; 113 CPU heads, 24 hard drives, 172 laptops, 1 tablet, 18 mobile phones, 3 cameras, 2 memory cards, 4 camera receivers, 5 printers, 1 wifi transmitter, 1 computer projector, 4 USBs, 1 rotor.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Judicial Judgment Department, the execution of the Alibaba case has received public attention and media coverage; During the process of implementing coercive measures, there is a possibility that the people being executed will gather in large numbers… so forces must be deployed to ensure security and order; promptly prevent and handle bad situations that occur.
At the appeal trial on May 19, the High People’s Court in Ho Chi Minh City upheld the life sentence for Nguyen Thai Luyen for fraudulent appropriation of property; reduced from 30 years in prison to 23 years in prison for property fraud and money laundering for defendant Luyen’s wife.
The court forced the two defendants to jointly pay more than 2,446 billion VND in compensation to more than 4,500 victims in the Alibaba case.
Since December 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Civil Judgment Judgment Department has transferred 82 billion VND in proportional compensation to the victims in the Alibaba case.
