Usha Krira Chakra secured semi-finals by defeating Ajax 5-2 in Group ‘B’ of Club Cup Hockey at Maulana Bhasani Stadium on Saturday. Ajax departed with two consecutive defeats. With Usha’s victory, Abahani is sure to reach the semi-finals with one match in hand. Abahani and Usha will meet in the last match of the group on Tuesday. This fight is to be the best of the group.
Besides, in the last match of the day, Mohammedan Sporting got off to a great start by defeating Police FC 5-1 under artificial lights. The Mariners also confirmed the last four along with the white and blacks in Police’s farewell.
Hasan Yuvair Niloy and Arshad Hossain scored two goals in Usha’s easy win. Taiyab Ali scored the other goal. Rakibul and Tanjim of Ajax scored the goals.
Usha joined India’s Sukalyan Mandal to play against Ajax. Niloy put Usha ahead by scoring from the penalty corner in the fifth minute. Captain Rakibul equalized Ajax by scoring from the penalty corner in the 12th minute.
In the first two quarters, the two teams fought hard. Usha scored three goals in just 6 minutes in the third quarter. After Niloy’s own second goal, Arshad’s double goal difference. In the 47th minute, Ajax’s Tanzim scored to make the difference 2-4. A couple of minutes later Taib hit a great field goal to give Usha a 5-2 win.
Defender Amirul Islam scored a brace for Mohammedan as they beat Police Club by a wide margin in the evening. Besides, Deen Islam Imon, Shafiul Alam Shishir and Ashraful Alam scored one goal each. Ahsan Habib scored a goal for the police. With this victory, Mohammedan confirmed the semi-final from ‘A’ group with one match in hand. In the final match, Mohammedan and Mariners will fight for the best of the group.
