A teenager (17) tried to circumcise a three-and-a-half-year-old child out of curiosity in Bagerhat. He tries to circumcise the child by binding his hands, feet and face. The tip of the child’s private parts was cut. He later died of excessive bleeding.
The teenager said this in the statement given in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Achadul Islam on Thursday (February 29) afternoon. The court ordered him to be sent to the Jessore Juvenile Correctional Facility.
Earlier on Wednesday (February 28) afternoon, the incident took place in Hijla village of Chitalmari upazila.
The name of the dead child is Shihab Sheikh. He is the son of Farhad Sheikh of Hijla village of Chitalmari upazila.
According to family and police sources, the teenager was curious about circumcising someone for a long time. That’s why he chooses the child Shihab. On the chance that no one was at home, he called Shihab and took him home. Later the child’s hands, feet and face were bound and an attempt was made to circumcise him with a pair of scissors. It cuts private parts. At one point, when the child Shihab became unconscious, they left him near the toilet. Shihab died there.
Later in the evening, after many searches, the locals did not find Shihab. Locals recovered the body of the child Shihab from the side of the toilet adjacent to the teenager’s house at night. Later that night, the police arrested the teenager. In this incident, Sumi Begum, the mother of Shihab, filed a murder case at Chitalmari police station.
Chitalmari Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Tariqul Islam, the investigating officer of the case, said that the juvenile has given a statement in court, admitting responsibility for the murder. He has been sent to Jessore Juvenile Correctional Facility.
