A few days ago, the final nominations for the 96th Oscars were announced. This year’s award show will be held on March 10, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Oscar winners in 23 categories will be awarded at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. A new branch has been added to this event this year. Casting directors are those who do the work of selecting actors according to the character in any movie or series.
Until now, casting directors had no place at the Oscars, although other artists associated with cinema were rewarded. They will be honored from 2026, the 98th season of Oscars.

It is known that casting directors have been petitioning for recognition of their work for the past few years. They handle other film craft work like sound, costumes and hair and make-up, which play an important role in making any movie. It is on the basis of their contribution that the organizers of the Academy Awards have taken this decision.
Academy bosses said in a statement that casting directors ‘play an essential role in filmmaking’. In addition, Academy CEO Bill Cramer and President Janet Young said, ‘We are proud to add consideration to the importance of casting at the Oscars.’
Earlier in 2001, the Oscars last added a new category called ‘Best Animated Feature Film’. That is, after more than two decades, a new category was added to the Oscars.
The 96th Oscar ceremony will be held on March 10 at the Dolby Theater in the United States. ‘Oppenheimer’ has been nominated in the maximum 13 categories in the final nomination list. The show will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. This grand event of Oscar will be shown live in more than 200 countries of the world including Bangladesh through ABC network.
