“Influenza kills 600,000 people every year, complications of this disease are recorded in 10-12 percent of patients.”

Publika.az Natalya Logacheva, candidate of medical sciences, doctor of clinical laboratory diagnostics, informed Lenta.ru about this.

He also described the most common complications.

“Any flu is dangerous due to the risk of developing serious complications, as well as death, in both children and adults.

According to the World Health Organization, the majority of patients diagnosed with influenza have a mild or moderate course of the disease. But every year around 600 thousand people die from flu. At the same time, 10-12 percent of patients have flu complications.”

“With the flu, shortness of breath, cyanosis and symptoms of influenza pneumonia, which accounts for 90 percent of complications, can develop. This affects the lungs and pleura when the lung tissue retracts. experience related anxiety or, on the contrary, there may be the appearance of agitation and even hallucinations,” said the doctor.

According to him, against the background of severe or fulminant forms of the flu, an acute condition with a life threat – infectious-toxic shock can develop.

Logacheva warned that the development of such a complication is accompanied by a drop in blood pressure, severe tachycardia, a sharp drop in temperature and loss of consciousness:

“Such a patient can die from multiple organ failure and cerebral edema. Respiratory failure syndrome can also occur, and such patients are hospitalized and put on artificial ventilation within 24 hours.”

Also, the doctor said that there are extra-pulmonary forms of complications. For example, the nervous system and cardiovascular system are damaged, but they are rare.
