A large-scale campaign “Almaty – our common home” has started

From April 8 to May 8, the city will host the “Almaty – Our Common Home” campaign. It will cover all districts of the city, every resident and guest of the metropolis will be able to take part in the campaign, Liter.kz reports..

The main goal of the event “Almaty is our common home” is to develop a caring attitude towards city infrastructure, instill high civic responsibility and environmental culture among the population, support private environmental initiatives and create conditions for their implementation.

The campaign consolidates the efforts of all residents, city structures, businesses, and public associations to respect their hometown. Famous businessmen, titled athletes and pop and film stars have already joined the action.

The campaign is divided into four weeks.

In the first seven days, until April 14 inclusive, utility services and district akimats will put the city infrastructure in order. The week is called “Our city – our streets”.

Next, citizens can get involved in the city improvement work, starting from their own backyard. From April 15 to 21, there will be a week of planting seedlings and landscaping yards – “Our city is our yard, our home.” Courtyards and playgrounds will be repaired and put in order.

Those wishing to landscape their yards and front gardens will be given planting material, and those wishing to paint the fences of private houses will be provided with paint and varnish material. During this period, various creative and environmental events will also start – the opening of a creative eco-hub and newlyweds’ alley “Zhas Zhubaylar”, plogging “Ecomathon”, a project for collecting food waste in cafes and restaurants is planned; campaigns “Clean Games”, “Hand in expired medicines – save the environment”; competitions “Best Yard”, “Best Front Garden”, “Best Utility Worker”, school drawing competition “Green Planet – Our Common Home” and much more.

On April 20, a citywide cleanup day will be held in Almaty.

The third week from April 22 to 28 – “Our city – our mountains, rivers and lakes” – is dedicated to putting things in order in the foothills, parks, squares, embankments and cleaning up reservoirs.

The final week, entitled “Our city is our pride,” will be dedicated to summing up the results; it is also a week of cleaning monuments and cultural sites. On May 1, it is planned to launch 65 city fountains.

The campaign will end on May 8 with the spectacular “Victory over the Garbage” show, rewarding active participants.

Over the entire period of the campaign, 1,765 bus stop pavilions, 480 traffic light objects, 2,500 containers for solid waste (solid waste), more than 15 thousand benches throughout the city, and about 24.7 thousand trash cans will be cleaned and restored. 300 thousand square meters of roads, 3,590 playgrounds were repaired, 30 km of river and canal embankments were cleaned, 1,349 km of ditch network were removed. Improvement work will cover 153 parks and squares, 4,468 km of streets and sidewalks. It is planned to plant 20 thousand trees and shrubs on the streets and squares, the akimat notes.

Sergek cameras will record citizens who throw garbage in public places.

During the event, a competition will be announced to determine the best home territory; citizens will be able to compete with each other in the best landscaping and landscaping of the yard.

Entrepreneurs did not stand aside. Businessmen will be able to share their projects aimed at improving the environmental situation. At certain food outlets, Almaty residents and city guests can exchange waste for free food or drink.
