A dialogue session was held on the exchange rate change and its impact on the national economy in Benghazi

Benghazi, March 26, 2024 (Al-Anbaa Al-Libya) A dialogue session was held yesterday, Monday, entitled (Change in the exchange rate and scenarios affecting the national economy) in Benghazi, jointly organized by the Community Partnership in Benghazi, the Meras Organization for Development, and the Civil Democratic Party.

This session was hosted by a member of the House of Representatives, Representative Abdul Hadi Al-Saghir, former Finance Minister Marja’ Ghaith, economic expert Ali Al-Sharif, and also legal advisor Abdul Hafeez Ghoga.

The session was attended by a number of economic and financial experts, civil society organizations, and a group of academics, jurists, and those interested in financial policies.

The session topics addressed the financial situation of the Libyan state, the nature of the crisis in the exchange rate and the proposed solutions, in addition to the legality of the financial decisions and policies of the Central Bank of Libya, as well as the direct impact of the financial crisis on the citizen’s standard of living.

The session discussed the extent to which the dollar price is linked to the control of credits and smuggling operations, as well as the absence of mechanisms for controlling public spending, as well as the imbalance in the balance of payments, in addition to the absence of economic diversification and Libya’s dependence on oil only.

The session touched on the local public debt and ways to address it, taking into account the assets of the foreign exchange reserves held by the Central Bank of Libya, as well as foreign exchange in the parallel market. (Libyan news)
