India started the Super Eight by beating Afghanistan – 2024-06-21 12:54:19

Afghanistan has given good cricket in the group stage. However, coming to the Super Eight, in the first match, he could not cope with the strength of India. Rohit Sharma’s team defeated the Afghans by a huge margin of 47 runs in Bridgetown.

The target for the Afghans was quite challenging, 182 runs. Rashid Khan’s team was all out for 134 runs after playing the entire 20 overs.

Afghanistan were never in the running chase. They lost 3 wickets for 23 runs and 5 wickets for 71 runs and were knocked out of the match.

None of the batsmen could stand up to the Indian bowling. Azmatullah Omarzai scored 26 from 20 balls, Najibullah Zadran scored 19 from 17 balls and Mohammad Nabi scored 14 from 14 balls after four top-order batsmen returned for short runs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful Indian bowler. He took only 7 runs in 4 overs and took 3 wickets. Arshdeep Singh got 3 wickets but spent 36 runs.

Earlier, after winning the toss and going to bat, India put up a challenging collection of 181 runs for 8 wickets. In the beginning, however, the Indians were in some danger after losing the wicket of captain Rohit Sharma.

But with Suryakumar’s brilliant batting in the middle order, India overcame the apprehension. Suryakumar played an innings of 53 runs off 28 balls.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 8 but Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant overcame the early shock of the Afghan bowling. Kohli got out after scoring 24 runs off 24 balls. Rishabh Pant scored 20 runs off 11 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav became India’s savior with 53 off 28 balls. He hit 3 sixes with 5 boundaries. Shivam Dubey got out after scoring 10 runs off 7 balls.

In the end, Hardik Pandya scored 32 runs off 24 balls with 2 sixes to build a challenging score for India. Akshar Patel scored 12 runs off 6 balls.

Fazalhaq Farooqui and Rashid Khan took 3 wickets each for the Afghans. Naveen Ul Haque took one wicket.
