LH Mikl-Leitner: “Austria is losing a star politician”

Sankt Pölten (OTS) “With Robert Lichal, Austria is losing a model politician who deeply impressed many people in this country with his passion, straightforwardness and steadfastness – including myself. His pointed manner of expression and his sharp mind made him a respected statesman and discussion partner across party lines. Our condolences go out to his family and friends in these difficult times. In Lower Austria we will always preserve his memory,” emphasized State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Robert Lichal was born in Vienna in 1932. He studied law in Vienna and was a state civil servant in Lower Austria. He was politically socialized in the ÖAAB, which he also headed as federal chairman from 1987 to 1991. Lichal held a variety of political offices: he was a member of the Federal Council, a member of the National Council, Second President of the National Council, but as Defense Minister (1987 to 1990) he was still remembered by the public today because he was so passionate about the militia and the soldiers and soldiers fought. Robert Lichal died today at the age of 92.
