Pedro Sánchez will reflect on whether to resign from the Presidency of Spain

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, decided to cancel his public agenda for a few days to reflect on whether he will resign as head of the Executive after the complaint against his wife, Begoña Gómez, for alleged corruption, and will communicate his decision on April 29.

Sánchez communicated this in a letter to the public that he made public through the social network far-right union Clean Hands.

In his letter, The chief executive regrets the “unprecedented” attack against his wife and wonders if it is worth continuing to endure this situation.

A question to which he answers by assuring that he does not know and, therefore, he points out that he needs to “stop and reflect” with his wife, with whom he admits to being “deeply in love.”

“I urgently need to answer the question of whether it is worth it, despite the mud in which the right and the extreme right try to turn politics. If I should continue at the head of the Government or give up this high honor,” adds Sánchez.

The complaint against the wife of the President of the Government, based on press reports, indicates that, taking advantage of her condition, He would have recommended or endorsed with his signature businessmen who participate in public tenders.

He points out that one of the businessmen who was awarded tenders worth 10 million euros later organized a master’s degree directed by Begoña Gómez at the Africa Center, of the Instituto de Empresa study center.

According to Manos Liminas, the Spanish airline Air Europa “agreed to pay 40,000 euros per year to the defendant’s Africa Center” and that “the agreement between Globalia (owner of the airline) and the Instituto de Empresa included the delivery of 15,000 euros per year on first class flights for the accused and her team”.

The Government describes the complaint as “false” and typical of “Trumpist” attitudes

This complaint came to light on a day in which there was a control session of the Executive in the plenary session of the Spanish Congress, which caused a succession of statements.

The first of them from Sánchez himself who said that, “on a day like today and after the news that I have learned, despite everything I continue to believe in the Justice of my country.”

Subsequently, other voices from the Government came out in defense of the wife of the Chief Executive, describing the complaint filed as “false.” and warning that they would not allow “Trumpist” attitudes that undermine democracy.

They also accused the main opposition party, the conservative PP, of using the denunciation of an “extreme right-wing organization” such as Clean Hands to defame and insult the Presidency of the Government.

Members of the Government also supported Sánchez on networks with hashtags such as #yoconpedro or #notodovale.

The opposition asks Pedro Sánchez for explanations

For its part, the conservative PP asked Pedro Sánchez for explanations and demanded that he “show his face” because it is “urgent, imperative and necessary” after an opening of proceedings that he considers “very worrying.”

From the ranks of the independence movement of Catalonia (northeast of Spain), several leaders of the party that supported Sánchez’s investiture, ERC, showed their “empathy with the pain” of the president and encouraged him to “endure.”

Sánchez, who had planned to leave tomorrow for Catalonia, to accompany the socialist candidate at the opening of the campaign for the regional elections on May 12, canceled this trip, as well as his presence at other relevant events this week.
