JAKARTA – Eating a variety of fasting dishes during the fasting month makes you susceptible to various diseases.

One of the common illnesses during fasting is sore throat. Apart from disturbing comfort when fasting, this condition can also get worse if it is not treated.

You don’t always have to take chemical medicine, there are several drinks that can be natural ingredients for treating sore throats. What are they? The following are some of them, reported from the Siloam Hospital page, Wednesday (27/3/2024).

1. Air Lemon

Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C which can increase the body’s immunity and speed up recovery from sore throats.

In addition to vitamin C, lemon juice also contains astringent compounds that are able to relieve inflammation and swelling in the throat.

2. Honey

Sore throat can be a symptom of GERD, which is a disorder of the digestive system. Honey can be used as a natural remedy for sore throats because it is considered safe for the digestive tract.

Honey has antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties which are known to treat sore throats effectively. You can consume honey directly or by mixing it into tea and other healthy drinks.

3. Salt Water

Salt water is a natural ingredient for the next sore throat medicine. That’s right, salt water is a solution that is antiseptic so it can slow down and stop the growth of bacteria that cause sore throat.

Apart from that, salt water can also loosen mucus that has accumulated due to a blocked nose or phlegm. You can dissolve one teaspoon of iodized salt in one glass of warm water. Then, gargle with warm salt water for 30 seconds.

You can do this 3 to 4 times every day until the sore throat subsides.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

The next natural remedy for sore throat is apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has antimicrobial compounds so it can relieve the pain caused by a sore throat.

To use it, you can dissolve 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Then, gargle with the apple cider vinegar solution every 3 to 4 hours regularly.

5. Ginger Tea

The next recommendation for a natural sore throat remedy is ginger tea. Ginger tea contains gingerol which is anti-inflammatory and analgesic so it can reduce the pain caused by sore throat. Consume warm ginger tea to relieve sore throat more optimally.
