The clear message that a new presidential election is not needed was sent by the 4th Congress of SYRIZA – PS, which closed after a full four days of work. The compromise proposal that was voted in favor confirms the confidence in Stefanos Kasselakis.
Specifically, the proposal put to a vote by Sokratis Famellos, Nikos Pappas and Giorgos Tsipras states: “The party must not enter a new cycle of introversion. There is no need for a new presidential election. The conference confirms its confidence in the president Stefanos Kasselakis and instructs the president and the party bodies to go united to the next polls, first of all the European elections with a unified function.
We are reorganizing the executive office with regular operation, empowering it to work out proposals to complete the transformation of our party.”

“We go into the next election battle of SYRIZA Progressive Alliance with the mandate to change everything. This was clearly seen,” said the party’s press representative, explaining that Stefanos Kasselakis’ proposal was unified. As the president of SYRIZA-PS said in his speech, today, after reading parts of the interventions of Alexis Tsipras and Olga Gerovassilis, he made it clear that based on their content, the polls on March 10 were a one-way street. However, after the new statement of Mrs. Gerovasilis which stated “if you want to go to the elections on March 10, go alone” it was clear to Mrs. Augeris that her request for elections is irrelevant. “There is no declaration of presence on her part for the elections” he added.
The president of the conference Panos Rigas speaking to journalists, he emphasized that in order for the election process to begin, the congress must decide that it accepts. “I would ask that question so we can get into anything else.” He said that the proposal of the three (S.Famellou-Pappa-G.Tsipras) was clear: no elections.
He added that the proposal of Stefanos Kasselakis was also clear for elections on March 10 package. Mr. Rigas stated that he asked Olga Gerovasilis to explain her proposal and the date. She added that she said to Mr. Kasselakis: “if it’s March 10, do it yourself.” In addition, that Mr. Kasselakis went up to the podium and said: “enough, the masks have fallen, we are not going to elections, we are moving forward”, but at the same time the delegates were voting on the proposal of the three to cancel the elections, which was not completed because it was not done count (pro-con).

During her intervention, Olga Gerovasili said to Stefanos Kasselakis: “I picked up the glove you threw, you threw it. If you want elections in ten days. Do it yourself and see what you get. Stefan, I stand by what I said.”

Stefanos Kasselakis asked for clear solutions by electing a president on March 10 in his speech, stressing that the congress can decide and underlining that the statute allows for the acceleration of the procedures if national elections are imminent.
“There are no dead ends in the Republic. Make your heart a stone, take some courage even and give the clean solution. Presidential election on March 10 and the winner will have time for the difficult battle of the European elections and an open horizon for the national elections, to rebuild the deeply wounded SYRIZA without stabbings, without suffocating deadlines” stressed the president of SYRIZA – PS.
“On Thursday I walked into the conference whole, wounded by months of daily questioning, especially questioning through deliberate leaks, but whole. How can I leave the conference on Sunday in pieces? How can I when our historical leader is asking for a vote of confidence and pretend nothing is happening? noted Stefanos Kasselakis and added:
“Are you saying elections again? We voted for you 4 days ago. We are tired, we are bored. We’ll do this job, you say? You are 1,000 right. You voted but some didn’t listen to you. If we need to shout to be fought by those who have lost their political hearing, then we will shout twice. Because the second time is different. If someone came out the first time because they planted him, the second time he doesn’t come out again. You only come out if you are rooted in the society and flourish with the society together with the members, the friends”.
The leader of the official opposition asked for a horizon until the national elections, regardless of the winner, “so that SYRIZA has time, so that our people have time to start counting down the time for the fireplace of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and not us”.
