3000 patients a year need kidney transplant, only 300 can be done – 2024-02-19 06:41:09

Currently, 17,000 patients across the country need kidney dialysis. Among them, 3,000 patients required a transplant. But out of this we can only transplant 300 patients. That is why patients are running abroad. The country’s money is going abroad. Due to legal complications, organ donation is not possible in the country for humanitarian reasons. The Organ Transplantation Act should be amended on humanitarian grounds.

On Sunday (February 18) Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the urology department of C block organized the anniversary ceremony of the research cell, Vice-Chancellor Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed says these things.

He said that the urology department of BSMMU has done history of cadaveric transplant. This transplant treatment will be further strengthened and expanded. For this we need to create skilled manpower. As the top institution of the country, the Transplant Division of Urology Department of BSMMU has to take responsibility. Apart from kidney, bone marrow transplant treatment including liver, heart, pancreas, cornea, skin transplant due to cadaveric transplant should be expanded nationwide.

He also said that the urology department of the university has come a long way. We have not forgotten those whose hands have led us to the present urology department. Those who have retired also have the opportunity to serve the people of the country through work in this department. They can work in super specialized hospitals.

Sharfuddin Ahmed also said that the research program of the university has been strengthened. At the same time measures have been taken to prevent any kind of unethical practices in research and thesis activities.

The proctor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University gave a welcome speech. Habibur Rahman Dulal. Professor Ishtiaq Ahmed Shamim, chairman of urology department, Prof. Abdul Salam, Professor Sajid Hasan, Professor AKM Khurshidul Alam, Professor Tauhid Md. Saiful Islam (Dipu), Chairman of Nephrology Department Prof. Nazrul Islam, Registrar Professor Mohammad Hafizur Rahman along with various levels of teachers and students of the university were present.
