A number of European clubs and national football associations may face serious problems due to continued cooperation with the clubs of the country in question after Russia started military operations against Ukraine.
Publika.az reports that the European Union and the United States forbid the transfer of more than 100,000 dollars to Russia or the purchase of products from there. 28 clubs have transferred football players from Russia despite financial restrictions. However, according to “Follow the Money” research, many clubs violated the sanctions against the Russian Federation and took risks and carried out larger transactions.
According to the source, one of the violators was PSV, which transferred Guus Thiel from “Spartak” in early June 2022. The representative of the Netherlands paid 3 million euros for the football player to the account of the owner of the Mosvka club, the Lukoil company, which is included in the US sanctions list.
At the same time, money was transferred from Russia to the account of the Royal Netherlands Football Association. The federation may be fined for this operation.
