In Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur, at least 24 villages of two unions were destroyed in the cyclone. It has been reported that hundreds of houses have been destroyed. The storm caused extensive damage to current crops and cut power lines.

On Wednesday (March 27) at around one o’clock in the morning, houses, plants and crops were damaged due to cyclone and hailstorm in Pachuria and Bana Union of upazila. Numerous trees were broken and uprooted. At many places, trees fell on the road and the movement of vehicles was disrupted. A few villages in the two unions were left in the dark after power lines snapped during the storm.

Imran Hossain, a resident of Kathurakandi village of Bana Union, told Jago News that at least 15 villages including Shirgram, Garania, Pakuria, Tabni, Tonapara, Sealdi Charpara, Joydevpur, Aushir Hat, Kathurakandi, Majpara, Arpara of Bana Union were hit by the storm. The storm caused extensive damage to unripe houses, plants, onions, garlic, lentils, coriander, paddy, wheat fields and agricultural crops. Electricity transmission has been stopped in the villages due to broken power lines.

Pachuria Union Parishad UP Member of Ward No. 1 (Member) Md. Aminur Rahman told Jago News that my house and crop fields have been damaged by the storm. In addition, 9 villages including Yugibrat, Bhatpara, Chadra, Pachuria, Deuli, Charnarandia, Dhuljuri, Charbhatpara have suffered extensive damage.

Alfadanga Upazila Parishad chairman AKM Zahidul Hasan Zahid said that around one o’clock on Wednesday, around 100 houses and hundreds of trees were uprooted in at least 24 villages of the two unions. Vast areas of crops were destroyed. Many lost their homes and took shelter under the open sky. After reaching the spot, work has been started to evacuate them to a safe place.

Bana Union Parishad Chairman Md. Haroon or Rashid Sharif’s mobile phone could not be reached.

Fahim Hasan, AGM of Alfadanga sub zonal office of Palli Vidyut Samity, said that due to the cyclone, power supply has been stopped in some villages. Power lines were snapped, some poles were broken. Work is underway to start the electricity connection.

In this regard, Alphadanga Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sarmeen Yachmin’s mobile phone number was not found even after several calls. He did not answer the phone.

District Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur. Kamrul Ahsan Talukder said, local upazila administration and public representatives have been instructed to reach the spot and help the victims. The district administration will provide all possible assistance to the victims.
