1 thousand 81 people from different countries have died while performing Hajj this year till Thursday (June 20). And it is known that 31 people have died in Bangladesh so far during this period.
Saudi Arabia’s National Meteorological Center said the temperature in Mecca’s Grand Mosque reached 51.8 degrees Celsius this week. Concerned people think that so many people have died due to intense heat.
Arab diplomats told the French news agency AFP that a total of 658 people have died in Egypt so far due to the intense heat. 630 of them were unregistered. 50 thousand 752 people registered and performed Hajj from Egypt this year.
Every year thousands of people attempt Hajj through irregular channels as it is expensive to register and go for Hajj. They cannot stay in air-conditioned areas as they are not registered.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has formed a ‘crisis cell’ headed by the prime minister after the death of so many people in Hajj.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Religion reported the death of 31 people on Thursday night. 25 of them are men and six are women.
A diplomat of the country said that 58 people have died so far out of about one and a half lakh pilgrims in Pakistan.
On the other hand, about 240,000 people from Indonesia went to Hajj this time. Among them, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has reported the death of 183 people so far.
Pilgrims from Malaysia, India, Jordan, Iran, Senegal, Tunisia, Sudan and Iraq’s Kurdistan Region have also died, according to relevant authorities in those countries. However, the cause of their death is not known. However, it is believed that they died due to heat.
Earlier in 2015, a maximum of 2,300 people died due to trampling during Hajj.
