The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), spoke on Wednesday (24/1) about the heavy rains that hit Belo Horizonte on Tuesday night (23). On his social media page, he gave a tip to Mayor Fuad Noman (PSD).

“Heavy rains have caused damage in Bosnia and Herzegovina. State security forces have joined forces to mitigate the damage. The government of Minas is investing in the construction of five retention basins in the capital. But management is still needed in the city which for many years grew without planning,” Zema wrote on Twitter.

On his social networks, Noman declared that the municipality has invested more than R$500 million in prevention works. The mayor also recalled that a containment basin, B5, has been built, which has the capacity to contain 274 million liters of water, thus avoiding further inconvenience on Avenida Teresa Cristina, in the Western Region.

Calm and storm

The rapprochement between Zema and Fuad at the end of last year gave way, at the beginning of 2024, to friction and different positions. First of all, at the January 8 event organized by the Senate, when the governor was absent and the mayor was present. Then with the exchanges of barbs about the carnival in the capital of Minas Gerais and, now, with the declaration of Zema and other Bolsonarist politicians about the rain in Belo Horizonte.
