On December 26, 2023, the Liepāja tennis coach Edgars Ernestson memorial fund awarded the students and coaches of the Liepaja Tennis Sports School for excellent results during the 2023 season.
Imants Andersons, former long-time director of the Liepāja Tennis Sports School and board member of the E. Ernestsons Memorial Fund: “We are very happy and proud that Liepaja has truly talented, enthusiastic and willing tennis players. We sincerely hope that every year there will be more and more such capable athletes. The awarding of the E. Erneston Scholarships will continue to be a tradition annual to serve as a motivation for young aspirants to strive even higher and achieve even more. On behalf of the foundation, we heartily thank the coaches and assistant coaches for their work, motivating, supporting and encouraging the athletes! May the New Year be filled with good health and rich success.”
Dāvis Rolis from Liepaja had a successful year in 2023, becoming Latvian tennis vice-champion in singles and doubles in adult competitions, as well as winning several prize places both locally and internationally. Furthermore, Dāvis was nominated to represent Latvia in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) European Junior Championship for the U18 age group.
In 2023, Anna Azarova from Liepaja took part in local and also international competitions, demonstrating a good performance. Anna won the title of vice-champion of the Latvian youth championship in the U16 age group and also represented Latvia several times in the U14 national team.
In the 2023 season, the coach of the Liepāja Tennis Sports School, Olga Bordjugova, contributed to the results of her students at local and international levels.
Furthermore, assistants of coach Olga Bordjugova, coaches Matīss Šteinhardt and Linda Priekule, who invested time and energy in preparing young tennis players, were also highlighted.
The director of the Liepāja Tennis Sports School, Gints Siliņš: “I am very happy that a fund named after Edgars Ernestsons, former coach of the Liepaja Tennis School, has been created, with the help of which young Liepaja tennis players and their coaches are celebrated. I’m happy that this kind of additional support has become a tradition and I hope it continues.”
To honor the memory of the coach and promote the development of young tennis players, the foundation continues the new tradition for the second year by creating a special, annual scholarship for coach Edgars Ernestson. Throughout the year, the foundation carefully followed the results of the students of the Liepāja Tennis Sports School and at the end of the year decided to reward, according to the foundation, this year’s brightest young people.

In 2020, in honor of the memory of legendary tennis coach Liepaja Edgars Ernestsons, the “Edgars Ernestsons Memorial Fund” was established. The purpose of the charitable fund is to thank the coach on behalf of the Latvian tennis community for his lifelong contribution to the development of tennis. For Edgars Ernestson, coach of the Liepāja Tennis Sports School, tennis was not just a sport, but also a lifestyle. From 1962 to 2018, on the Liepāja tennis courts, the coach raised many outstanding athletes who achieved great success not only in Latvia, but around the world, including one of the strongest tennis players in the world, Anastasia Sevastova.
