Younes Idrissi Kaitouni elected to the United Nations Special Intergovernmental Committee

Director General of Taxes, Younes Idrissi Kaitouni, has been elected to represent the African continent at the United Nations (UN) Special Intergovernmental Committee Office responsible for tax cooperation, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) has announced.

“Mr Idrissi Kaitouni has been elected to serve on the Bureau of the United Nations Special Intergovernmental Committee on Tax Cooperation, as a representative of the African continent together with senior officials from three other African states (Egypt, Ghana and Kenya)” , the DGI indicated in a press release.

This election is part of the creation of new United Nations bodies for strengthening international tax cooperation and recognizes the place occupied by Morocco on the African and international scene and the role of the DGI in promoting international tax cooperation.

It should be noted that on 22 November 2023, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Promotion of inclusive and effective international tax cooperation within the United Nations”, promoted by Nigeria, on behalf of the group of African States members of the UN.

This resolution calls for the development of a United Nations Framework Convention describing the fundamental postulates of international tax cooperation.
