Yorbe Vertessen prefers to play for chances rather than the title with PSV: “So it’s better to leave”

With a great cup goal, Yorbe Vertessen (23′) won some hearts again on Wednesday in Eindhoven. The young Belgian is enjoying a good season in Eredivisie leaders PSV, but he is not a starter. That’s why he’s looking for a transfer. “Maybe something good will happen to me.”

On Wednesday evening, PSV’s two Belgian stars shone once again. In the cup match against Twente, Johan Bakayoko once again scored a great goal, a trick that Yorbe Vertessen had already shown him before.

While Bakayoko is also an undisputed leader in the competition, Vertessen has to settle mostly for a substitute status in Eindhoven. And this is not entirely pleasing to the very fast striker, who has already shone regularly in the Eredivisie and in the Champions League this season.

“I think everyone knows I want more playing minutes,” Vertessen responded to ESPN after the cup win. “That’s why I think leaving is the best thing for me. On the other hand, it’s also nice to play here in the Champions League and for the title.”

“So it’s not really a bad choice for me. But for me it’s better to take a new step so I can get more minutes,” he concluded.

I see too many other guys ahead of me in my position. I have to deal with it.

At PSV, Vertessen has to compete in attack with Noa Lang, Hirving Lozano, Ismail Saibari, Ricardo Pepi and Johan Bakayoko. A solid list. “I actually see too many other guys ahead of me in my position. I have to deal with this.”

“If I don’t succeed here, it won’t be easy mentally, but I also have to keep working hard. Maybe something good will come to me.”

The coach is destructive

PSV manager Peter Bosz is satisfied with the performance of Vertessen, who has scored 5 goals and 1 assist in all competitions this season. He would prefer not to see the Belgian leave.

“I sat down with Yorbe and talked about it briefly,” Bosz responded earlier. “I understand that kids think they have to play. On the other hand, I don’t understand it either, because we’re doing something big here and I imagine you want to be part of it.”

I told Yorbe he can’t leave. He has already been very valuable and will continue to be so in the second part of the season.

“I was clear with Yorbe and told him: ‘You are not allowed to leave.’ Yorbe has already been very valuable and I am sure he will be so in the second half of the season as well.”

The remaining two weeks of the winter transfer window will tell whether Vertessen actually stays in Eindhoven. There would be concrete interest from Union Berlin. The traditional German club is in the process of selling its striker Sheraldo Becker to Real Sociedad and is looking for a replacement.
