Yeşilçam’s legendary name Aydemir Akbaş passed away

(ISTANBUL) Aydemir Akbaş, the legendary name of Turkish cinema, who had been receiving cancer treatment for a while, passed away in the hospital where he was receiving treatment at the age of 88. A memorial ceremony was held for the master actor today at Galatasaray High School.
Veteran Yeşilçam actor Aydemir Akbaş has passed away at the age of 88. Akbaş, who had been receiving cancer treatment for a while, was found unconscious at home and taken to intensive care. Akbaş, who had previously overcome colon, larynx and bowel cancer, announced in January 2023 that he had cancer again.
A farewell ceremony was held today for scriptwriter, director, actor Aydemir Akbaş at Galatasaray High School, where he was also a congress member. The ceremony was attended by Cinema General Manager Birol Güven, Galatasaray Sports Club President Dursun Özbek, actors Şafak Sezer, Polat Yağcı and many fans.
“I would give up on all the values ​​in my life, but I wouldn’t give up on Galatasaray”
Speaking at the ceremony held in the garden of Galatasaray High School, President Özbek said, “He is in everyone’s memory and was met with applause. What he expressed was this. I would give up on every value in my life, but I would not give up on Galatasaray. This still lives in our memories. That is why we are in sorrow for losing a great Galatasaray supporter, a great artist, a cinema, theater actor and a great Galatasaray supporter loved by everyone in Turkey. I wish God’s mercy upon him and patience for his loved ones and his family.”
“Cinema said cinema and died with cinema”
Actor Şafak Sezer said, “He was a valuable brother of mine with whom I had great pleasure in working. Cinema said cinema, and he died with cinema. May God have mercy on him and I wish his family my condolences.”
‘Did you wait for me Aydemir, thank you’
Unable to hold back her tears, Tatlıses said: ‘Aydemir does not ask for money or help from anyone. He expected love from everyone. I loved him, but he loved me. There is so much to tell, but it cannot fit into 2 minutes. I understood that he wanted to see me in his last breath and I went. I went to intensive care, he was like a baby white. I put my right hand on his left knee. I said, ‘Come on, I’m here.’ He gave up his life half an hour after I left. ‘Did you wait for me Aydemir, thank you.’ My condolences to all of us,’ he said.
“Turkish cinema had its good days and its bad days”
Birol Güven said, “My condolences to the movie lovers. He was a very important value for us. He signed works with millions of viewers. He was there in good times and bad times in Turkish cinema. We are losing valuable names one by one.”
“Despite the pain, he came and acted in that movie”
Polat Yağcı said, “He was a very good person. He was always a big brother to us. He would come to the set while he was still receiving treatment for the Kolpaçino movie. He would always say, ‘I won’t die before shooting this movie.’ He came and played in that movie despite the pain he was in.”
The funeral prayer for actor Aydemir Akbaş, who died at the age of 88 in the hospital where he was receiving treatment in Şişli the day before yesterday, will be held at the Levent Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque following the noon prayer. Akbaş’s coffin, wrapped in the Galatasaray flag, was brought to the mosque after the ceremony held at Galatasaray High School.
The artist will be buried in Feriköy Cemetery after the noon prayer at Levent Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha Mosque.
